What is a Doodle?

A Doodle is any dog that has Poodle DNA, it's that simple.

There are several several types of Doodles, we will be discussing Goldendoodles here.  A Goldendoodle is a dog that carries genes from both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle.  People fall in love with this cross because it often comes with a non-shedding fun loving super smart dog.  Lets break down the different 'types' of Goldendoodles.

Sizes

​

Petite:         25 lbs. or less

Miniature:   26-35 lbs.

Medium:    36-50 lbs.

Standard:   51 or more lbs.

F1

Golden Retriever x Poodle

50% Golden Retriever

50% Poodle

 

The least desirable of the Goldendoodles. Likely to shed with the most inconsistent coat.

F1B

F1 x Poodle

25% Golden Retriever

75% Poodle

​

More desirable than the F1, some of these Goldendoodles are non-shedding and hypoallergenic.

F1BB

F1B x Poodle

12.5% Golden Retriever

87.5% Poodle

​

The most desirable of the F1 Goldendoodles. Many are likely non-shedding and hypoallergenic.

50% Golden Retriever

50% Poodle

 

The least desirable of the F2 Goldendoodles.  Like the F1, these dogs are likely to shed with the most inconsistent coat.

37.5% Golden Retriever

One of the favorites, this Goldendoodle is likely non-shedding and hypoallergenic.

This is an alternate cross some breeders use and like the F1B it is  desirable because many of these Goldendoodles are non-shedding and hypoallergenic.

The most desirable of the F2's this Goldendoodle has the most Poodle behind the F1BB.  These dogs are likely non-shedding and hypoallergenic.

DNA: 

The only way to be 100% sure regarding % of Poodle, is to do DNA testing.  The higher the % of Poodle, the more likely the dog will be non-shedding and hypoallergenic.
